This Lao language class, for absolute beginners, assumes no prior knowledge of Laotian. Class will concentrate on speaking and listening, but not to the exclusion of the reading and writing of Lao script. It will introduce the alphabet and tones, as well as the writing system. A tonal language, Lao is part of the Tai family, closely related to the Isan language of NE Thailand. The two are often considered one language. The class provides an important foundation for further studies in the language. The teacher is a native speaker of Lao, with good English. Classes are kept small.
